“Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it.” Buddha
This is the quote that had a significant impact on my life.
I grew up in a conservative Catholic family. That significantly influenced how I saw the world. I believed that my purpose in life as well as the purpose of everyone else is to believe in God, spread the gospel, and build a family. But such a general purpose didn’t answer the question about what career to choose in my life and I didn’t receive much guidance about what suited my personality best.
I chose to study law so I could become a judge as justice has always been an important value to me. Even though I enjoyed studying law, I realised it didn’t give me the feeling of purpose. After graduation, I spent some time abroad and eventually I moved to Ireland. My first year there I felt lost and didn’t know what I was going to do with my life. At this point, the religious purpose of life didn’t satisfy me anymore. I started to follow different influencers and read more motivational books. I met more people from different cultures. I became more open-minded. When I came across the Buddha’s quote, I had an “aha” moment. My life purpose is subjective, closely connected with my personality and life experience. It is my job to spend time and energy finding it. No one can give me general advice about what will make my life fulfilled. It’s all up to me and how well I know myself. From that moment it didn’t take me long to come to the potential answer about what my life purpose might be.
Many studies have shown that having a purpose in life has a strongly positive impact on your life and overall well-being. And if that purpose is in tune with your passion and you can make money doing it, it will make your life extraordinary. This is one of the topics we cover in our programme ‘Pathways to Purpose’, giving you the essential tools in helping you design a roadmap for finding your purpose.
